A+ Green Guide Rating for Tatsfield School, thanks to Unidek SIPS

 28 Nov 2009

When the project architects involved with the construction of a new school in a sensitive location sought to soften its roofline, Unidek SIPS provided the ideal solution for supporting a sedum roof.

Unidek took full design, manufacture and installation responsibility for Condor Roofing SIPS on this Carl Fisher Partnership designed project for Tatsfield Junior School.

Tatsfield SchoolCreating a fully insulated, load bearing deck, able to meet stringent BREEAM requirements, the finished solution was just 220mm thick. Specially fabricated units span up to 3.8 metres while supporting an imposed load of 110Kg/m2; at the same time offering a miserly U-value of just 0.16W/m2K.

As part of the project, Unidek carried out a condensation risk assessment employing its own approved software as well as empirical data: as a result incorporating a heavy duty aluminium foil vapour check layer within the build up of the panel.

Project Architect for The Carl Fisher Partnership, Peter Dowding comments: "As well as the visual appearance, specifying a green roof also offers such benefits as attenuation of rainfall. We have used SIPS panels on previous school projects, and felt they offered the best solution here in terms of achieving the performance requirements and getting a dry roof as quickly as possible. The line of the building involves a series of facets but the Unidek panels were installed very quickly and without problems."

Unidek are supplying numerous SIPS products for many BSF projects around the UK and the MMC benefits of SIPS Technology lends itself to massively reducing build time as well as significantly enhancing performance and sustainability credentials. Click here for a preview of SIPS SENSE™ from Unidek.
