Unidek
Unidek Summary
Company Profile
Unidek Bv has been manufacturing innovative and sustainable products for the European construction industry for almost 40 years and, amongst many successful products, its revolutionary Structural Insulated Panel System (SIPS) has established a market-leading position for roofing panels in several countries. Following a detailed four-year roof systems SIPS analysis for the UK Construction industry Unidek has now established Unidek Ltd, a company dedicated to providing sustainable, high performance SIPS products to the UK construction market for both domestic and non domestic clients. Unidek SIPS not only provide the Modern Method of Construction solution to roof systems but offer the added benefit of enabling the cost-effective creation of third storeys or rooms in the roof. Significant savings are made on larger projects such as Hospitals, Hotels, Schools and any building that has large expanses of roof area requiring large span capability.
CRH Group Profile
Unidek is part of CRH Plc, which has an annual turnover in excess of €21 Billion, operates in 35 countries and has over 93,500 employees at over 2,700 locations. Within CRH plc is CRH Insulation Europe which includes 19 manufacturing plants for Expanded Polystyrene, 2 for Extruded Polyethylene; 2 for Extruded Polystyrene and four for Polyurethane and Polyisocyanurate foams.
This Group strength enables Unidek Ltd to draw on a vast resource of experience and expertise, not only in the provision of insulation solutions but also throughout the UK construction industry, with sister companies that include Ibstock Brick, Forticrete, Heras Fencing, Halfen Fixings, Ancon Fixings, Kevington Brick, Springvale EPS, Ecotherm Insulation, Cox Building Products, Supreme Concrete and Airvent Systems as just some of CRH Plc's major brands in the UK.
This manufacturing network, together with numerous relationships built up within the construction sector over the past 40 years, provides this development with the capability to bring designers & design professionals, contractors, housebuilders and Housing Associations the opportunity to meet the challenges of the many legislative and regulatory issues that SIPS can accommodate through both performance and cost advantages.
The Product
The Unidek Condor Structural Insulated Roof Panel System not only provides the MMC solution to roof insulation but offers the added benefit of enabling the cost-effective creation of third storeys or rooms in the roof. The roof panel core is manufactured mainly from from EPS, (but can be made with other insulants such as PIR, PUR etc) sandwiched between two timber skins of OSB/Living Board to form a highly engineered composite element. The combination of a highly developed stress skin technique with high load-bearing capacity and a comparatively low weight allows for free spans of + 6 meters unsupported.
The system allows efficient, safe and fast installation, whilst providing a weather tight environment for following trades and for the structure below. The integral insulation in the roof panels also means that the panels will give the required thermal resistance to ensure an efficient roof element and can improve on traditional methods of providing thermal insulation significantly. As the system is designed for roofs, it can be accomodated on any type of supporting frame such as Traditional Masonry, Steel Frame, Timber Frame, Concrete Frame, ICF or any other modular method. However, Unidek can also provide walling panels if required (See opposite)
Unidek Condor SIPS roofing panels also offer a significant contribution to the overall SAP or SBEM rating as the reduction in carbon emissions is achieved by the extremely low U-values achievable for a pitched roof -typically 0.16W/m2K, although even lower values are achievable.
Unidek Condor SIPS significantly improve sound reduction and air leakage resistances over traditional roofing materials. The impact sound from rain and hail is also reduced due to the composite action and design of the roof panels. Unidek Condor Daylight Panels can be supplied ready to receive a rooflight. These panels are trimmed around the opening and have been structurally designed to spread the loads across the full element.
The Green Building Guide gives a rating of 'A+' for the roofing panels with reclaimed slates, clay tiles and concrete interlocking tiles.
